Introduction

Let's be real, The Necromancer achievement has been broken since day one. You have probably searched online, found a dozen different "solutions," tried most of them, and none of them worked. I have been there too. So after a lot of trial and error, I finally figured out a method that actually works, and I am sharing it with you here. No fluff, no nonsense, just the steps that get the job done.

Important: This guide is for the Steam version only.

Step 1 - Delete your game saves

The first thing you need to do is clear out your existing save files, they are interfering with the achievement trigger.

Go to this folder on your PC:

C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\AtomicHeart\Saved\SaveGames

To save your progress for later, just copy the entire SaveGames folder to your desktop or somewhere safe. Put it back once you're done.

Note: If you don’t see the AppData folder, it is hidden by default. You can open hidden folders in the Windows settings, or just type %appdata% into your file explorer’s address bar and go from there.

Step 2 - Turn off Steam Cloud saves

Unless you turn this off, Steam will try to restore your deleted saves automatically.

Here’s how:

  1. Start Steam.
  2. Go to Settings > Cloud.
  3. Uncheck the box that says "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for applications which support it.
  4. This prevents your old saves from coming back and messing things up.

Step 3 - Start a fresh game

Once your saves are gone and the cloud is disabled, launch Atomic Heart and start a brand new game. I recommend playing on Easy difficulty to save time, you are not here for the challenge this time, you are here for the achievement.

New Game+ won't be available since you deleted your saves, so just start from scratch.

Step 4 - Talk to every corpse

Now comes the actual grind. To earn The Necromancer achievement, you need to interact with every "dead" NPC in the game, the ones that trigger a dialogue or a voice line.

Important Tip #1 - Track your progress

You will know a corpse has been counted when a small progress notification pops up in the bottom right corner of your screen, like:

Necromancer (23/46)

That's your real progress tracker. If the window pops up, the corpse is counted, you don't need to exhaust every dialogue option, finish the conversation, or repeatedly interact with them. One count is all you need.

Important Tip #2 - The five problematic corpses

There are five corpses in the game that are a bit different.
You cannot start a full dialogue with them, but they still matter for the achievement:

a) The corpse at VDNKh on the floor near Tereshkova, he talks about flowers. You can press F to interact.

b) The corpse on the right when entering the theater, he talks about Lastochkin. Interactive, and P3 will respond if you listen to all of his lines.

c) Two corpses in the dressing room on the 4th floor of the same theater, one of them is... let's say memorable. You can press F to interact with him.

d) The second one behind the screen is completely inactive and cannot be interacted with at all.

e) There's also an inactive corpse on the street accessible from the top floor of VDNKh, you can safely ignore it.

When you encounter corpses a, b, and c, press F just to be safe, even if they don't trigger the progress popup, it won't hurt.

Step 5 - Wait for the Achievement to pop

If you've followed all the steps correctly, your progress should gradually increase as you work through the game. In most cases, the achievement will unlock when you reach the Pavlov complex, that seems to be the trigger point for most players.

Final Thoughts

Yes, it's annoying. Yes, it's time consuming. But this method actually works, and once you are done, you will never have to think about this broken achievement again. Good luck, and may your patience hold out.
