This guide shows you where to find all seven Ayleid Conjuration spell tomes and the Ayleid Crown of Oioran during the quest "The Cause" in Oioran Varlasel and the surrounding dungeons. These are easily missable items, so I've put together detailed instructions to help you track them all down.
A quick note: You'll be travelling through Oioran Varlasel, Oioran Wendesel, Oioran Sedorsel, and Oioran Edesel. These locations are all part of the same questline, so you'll visit them in order as you progress.
The Four Basic Ayleid Conjuration Spells
Conjure Ayleid Skeleton Guardian
Location: Oioran Varlasel - right side of the map
How to Find It:
This spell tome is sitting on a table in the room where Calindil speaks of books and lost knowledge. The table has Ayleid skeletons sitting around it, so be careful - explosions and shouts can easily knock the book away. Make sure you pick it up before any chaos ensues.
Conjure Ayleid Skeleton Archer
Location: Oioran Varlasel - southern end
How to Find It:
Follow the map to the southern end of Oioran Varlasel, it looks like a long hallway on the actual map screen. You'll find a locked door. Open it, and inside that room, there's a table with a red cloth. Sitting on that table is the Oioran Varlasel Key. You need this key to get the spell.
What’s next:
Take the key to High Confessor Marilynd's room and the Rune Stone R.
Go down the stairs into the large area with benches where a lot of skeletons stand up from.
In that room, there's a door that can only be opened using the key you just found.
Inside that room, you'll find the spell tome sitting on a table, flanked by empty versions of the soul gem lighting traps.
Conjure Ayleid Skeleton Warrior
Location: Oioran Wendesel - inside the big central structure
How to Find It:
This one is next to a skeleton inside the room where Calindil gets excited about the memorial. If you're standing where the stone tablet that Calindil can translate is, go left around that thing and look inside. The spell tome should be right there.
Conjure Ayleid Skeleton Gladiator
Location: Oioran Sedorsel - near the burned bodies
How to Find It:
When you reach the room where Calindil starts talking about the burned bodies in a large room and Mortuga says they're dead warriors - this is the large area where Rune Stone E is found. Go down to the section where the burned bodies are.
Flame Atronachs will spawn here, so you'll know it's the right place. After dealing with those enemies, go into the East doorway. There's a dark space with another burned body and the spell tome sitting there. I used Candlelight to brighten it up - it's pretty dark in there.
Star Made Ayleid Conjuration Spells
Location: Oioran Edesel - Northwest section
The four remaining spell tomes are all stronger variants of the previous four. They summon glowing versions of the same skeletons, the kind you see in the final sections of the dungeon and summoned by the boss.
These four spells are all located in the Northwest of Oioran Edesel. They're sitting on bookshelves in the corner of the room, essentially serving as an extra reward after claiming the sword. Don't leave without grabbing them.
Ayleid Crown of Oioran
Location: Dropped by the Ayleid King
How to Find It:
This is a very easy item to miss - more than anything else you get in the dungeon. When you've beaten the king, just loot his ash pile. The Crown of Oioran will be there.
What It Looks Like:
It's an Elven Helmet with a very unique texture. The enchantment offers:
Magic resistance
Cost reduction for Destruction spells
Cost reduction for Restoration spells
Pretty strong for a low to mid level spellsword, which happens to be the character type that benefits most from the quest overall. That said, it's far from the only build that can use it, since the sword itself is so adaptable.
Important Notes on the Crown
Variants:
I've found that there are actually several variants of the Crown, but I'm not sure exactly what dictates which one you'll find. It exists both as a light and a heavy helmet, with varying levels of armor and enchantment strength.
What I've Observed:
The strong variants are likely higher character level loot
I'm entirely unsure what causes it to be heavy armor
I can confirm that heavy armor 38 and light armor 19 can result in a Crown with a light armor tag and weak stats
Forge Upgrading:
I found that the Crown can be switched between light and heavy at a forge at the cost of Refined Moonstone. It's possible that in order to match the Starmade Blade's scaling, the Crown allows for better stats as you level up, with the forge being the method of empowering it.
Final Tips
Save frequently, some of these locations have tough enemies
Use Candlelight or Magelight , some of the rooms are very dark and easy to miss things in
Be careful with shouts and explosions , the Guardian spell tome in particular can be knocked away by careless combat
Don't forget to loot the king's ash pile, it's easy to miss the Crown in the aftermath of the fight
Check your crafting menu, you can switch the Crown between light and heavy armor at a forge
