DAMex : DArk Matter Exodus is a challenging solo extraction shooter set in a hostile scifi world. You play as Quinn, a Dark Matter harvester stranded on the lush jungle planet Viridan, surrounded by deadly Guardian robots, fearsome bosses, hostile wildlife, and a web of corporate lies. The year is 2135, and the discovery of harvestable Dark Matter triggered a devastating 50year interstellar war that ended humanity's oil age. Now, corporations are finding ways around the rules, and you're caught in the middle of it all. Harvest. Fight. Escape.
The core loop is classic extraction shooter with a thirdperson perspective. Every mission is a highstakes operation where you venture into Viridan's dangerous jungles to harvest valuable Dark Matter, but the real question is whether you can extract alive. There are over 10 handcrafted levels to explore across distinct biomes, each sequence ending with a boss that has unique attack patterns. Difficulty scales from casual to unforgiving, and if you enable permadeath mode, every mistake is your last.
What makes it stand out is the atmosphere and the stakes. You're not a soldier, you're a corporate harvester caught in Dame Corporation's shadow operations, risking everything in the illegal Dark Matter trade. The combat is epic thirdperson action, ranging from devastating closerange blade strikes to midrange laser fire supported by your companion. The world is dense and immersive, powered by Unreal Engine 5.5 with Lumen global illumination, ray tracing, and DLSS 4.5 / FSR 3.1 compatibility. All levels are handcrafted, and the jungle planet Viridan feels genuinely alive and hostile.
It was developed and published by, a small indie team, and released on July 1, 2026. It's built in Unreal Engine 5 and carries a transparent AI content disclosure, the developers state that the game uses AIgenerated content including cinematic videos, voices, and some images.
The reception so far is extremely limited. As of now, it has only 3 user reviews on Steam, so there's no real consensus on how it plays longterm. One aggregator site lists it at 60% positive based on that tiny sample, which is essentially meaningless statistically. There's also a free demo available on Steam if you want to test the waters before.
System requirements are moderate. You'll need Windows 10 x64, an Intel Core i54670K, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti at minimum. The recommended specs bump that up to an i76700K, 16 GB RAM, and an RTX 4060. You'll only need 4 GB of storage space, and the game supports DirectX 12.
Who's it for?
If you like extraction shooters like Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown but want something you can play solo without the stress of other players hunting you, this is worth a look. If you enjoy scifi settings with a story about corporate greed, illegal mining, and a protagonist caught in the middle of a conspiracy, the narrative hook is genuinely interesting. It's also for players who appreciate handcrafted levels, boss fights with unique attack patterns, and a difficulty curve that respects your time, whether you want a casual run or a permadeath nightmare.
If the game has sparked your imagination, I hope you come out victorious!
Thanks!
