Hyper_Sea_5000 is a 3D neoretro arcade shooter that throws you into a neonsoaked cyberpunk nightmare with one simple goal: survive. You've been trapped inside a warp cube for crimes against the Cube Federation, and now every faction in the galaxy is out to get you. You're alone, you're outnumbered, and you're probably going to die. But you were trapped for a reason so make them pay.
The gameplay is pure arcade chaos. You fly around in the most advanced ship in the galaxy, blasting through relentless waves of enemies and yes, they're all cubes. Small cubes, big cubes, weird cubes, and boss cubes that will push your reflexes to the limit. You've got your main weapons, a charge shot, incredible speed, and midair dodging to keep you alive. Defeated enemies occasionally drop power crystals, and there are crystal fishes floating around that give you an extra edge. You can even use the warp cube itself as a weapon. The controls are tight, the action is fast, and the difficulty curve is steep enough to make you sweat.
The game isn't just about surviving the main campaign. Once you beat the biggest boss of them all, the real game begins an endless mode where you fight tooth and nail for the highest score possible. It's the kind of arcade experience that keeps you coming back for "just one more run" until the sun comes up.
It was developed and published by a solo developer, and released on September 5, 2024. The game runs on Windows 10/11 (64bit) with very modest system requirements: an Intel Core i37100, 4 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti at minimum. You'll need about 1.3 GB of storage space, and the game supports Steam Deck.
It's worth being honest about the reception. The game currently has only 3โ4 user reviews on Steam, so the community is still tiny. But every single one of those reviews is positive, and the game sits at 100% positive from the handful of players who've tried it. One review site even calls it "Overwhelmingly Positive" based on that tiny sample. It's a hidden gem in the truest sense almost nobody knows it exists, but the people who've played it love it.
Who's it for?
If you grew up on classic arcade shooters like Galaga, Gradius, or Ikaruga, this is going to hit you right in the nostalgia. If you like fastpaced action games that reward reflexes, pattern recognition, and sheer stubbornness, you'll get lost in this for hours. It's also for players who want a cheap, selfcontained arcade experience they can pick up for ten minutes or sink an entire evening into. And if you just want to fly a spaceship, shoot cubes, and chase a high score like it's 1987 all over again, this one's got you covered.
You're getting a complete arcade shooter with an endless mode, boss fights, powerups, and Steam Deck support.
If the game has intrigued you, good luck coming out on top!
