SCP: Short Story is a short, atmospheric firstperson shooter set in the SCP universe, and it wastes no time dropping you into the deep end of a dying world. The Kclass scenario has already happened. Almost every living thing is gone. The only survivors are huddled in a bunker, and you're one of the last Foundation soldiers with a job to do: retrieve documents from Site17 that will help your scientists build a portal out of this nightmare.
The core gameplay is survival horror FPS with a heavy emphasis on resource management. You're not a supersoldier you're a soldier running low on everything. Ammo, medkits, and pills are scarce, and you'll spend as much time searching stashes as you do fighting. The enemies are holograms: aggressive, dangerous entities that can be shot from your rifle, but if you hesitate for even a few seconds, they'll teleport right in front of your face and kill you almost instantly. Every encounter is a test of nerve and trigger discipline, and the atmosphere is thick with the dread of a world that's already lost.
Your journey takes you through desertlike fields, an abandoned city, and the empty corridors of Site17, and the game never lets you forget that you're one person against something far bigger than you. It was developed by a small indie team, and released on July 6, 2026. The developer openly discloses that AIgenerated audio was used for the main character and operator voice lines, which is a transparency that's becoming more common in indie development.
It's worth being honest about the reception, though. The game currently has only 2 user reviews on Steam, so there's no real consensus yet on how it plays longterm. One review site notes that the content is not suitable for children under 15 due to detailed violence and occasional strong language, though there are no sexual scenes or prominent smoking. The system requirements are modest: Windows 10, a Ryzen R5 1600, 8 GB RAM, an RX 570, and 10 GB of storage space.
Who's it for?
If you're a fan of the SCP universe and want a short, focused FPS that captures the dread of a Foundation gone wrong, this is worth a look. If you enjoy survival horror where every bullet counts and the atmosphere is as dangerous as the enemies, the tension delivers. It's also for players who want a cheap, selfcontained experience they can finish in an evening and don't mind a game that's still rough around the edges.
But if you're looking for a polished, storyrich SCP epic, you should probably wait and see how the game develops. At its current state, it's a small, scrappy indie shooter with a lot of atmosphere and not much else though for the price, that might be enough.
f the game has fascinated you, good luck claiming victory!
