Face Your Fear

๐Ÿ ENDED

๐Ÿ“ Description

Face Your Fear is a psychological horror game where stress can literally kill you. You play as a young teenager suffering from a serious heart condition, trapped alone in a house that has turned into a living nightmare. The windows are sealed shut, the phone is dead, and something inside the house knows you're there. You have no weapons. No way to fight back. Only choices. Run. Hide. Or stare death in the eyes.

The core mechanic is your BPM (heart rate). As terror rises around you, your stress levels climb, and if you don't manage them carefully, your own heart becomes your greatest enemy. You have to monitor your stress, take your medication on time, and solve puzzles while under constant pressure because too much stress can be fatal. Paranormal events intensify as the night goes on, familiar places become twisted and hostile, and reality itself starts to collapse around you. You'll encounter multiple monsters with unique behaviors, each one testing your sanity and survival instincts in different ways.

What makes it stand out is how it turns the horror genre's usual tension into a survival mechanic you have to actively manage. You're not just running from monsters you're running from your own body's reaction to fear. The game features detailed environments, immersive graphics, and a storydriven structure that unfolds through exploration and enigmasolving. Each level introduces new mechanics and new monsters, so the game keeps evolving as you play.

It was developed and published by a small indie team, and released on July 12, 2024. The game is built on Unreal Engine. It's important to know that the game is currently in PreAlpha the developer is actively seeking feedback and bug reports through their Discord server to help shape the game's future. System requirements are modest: Windows 7 or newer, a 2.5 GHz processor, 4 GB RAM, and a graphics card with 4 GB VRAM. The recommended specs bump that up to Windows 11, a 3.5 GHz processor, 8 GB RAM, and 8 GB VRAM.

It's worth being honest about the reception, though. The game currently sits at a "Mostly Negative" rating on Steam, with one aggregator site listing it at 61% positive from 18 reviews. One Steam curator praised its atmosphere, saying: "One of the main advantages of FaceYourFear is the atmosphere of fear and tension that does not let the player go throughout the game. The monsters look very realistic and intimidating." That's high praise for the atmosphere but the mixed reviews suggest that the gameplay and polish may not match the strength of its core concept, at least in its current PreAlpha state.

Who's it for?

If you like psychological horror games that focus on atmosphere and tension rather than jump scares and combat, this is worth a look. If you're drawn to the idea of a horror game where your own body is the real enemy where managing stress is as important as hiding from monsters the BPM mechanic is a genuinely unique hook. It's also for players who want to be part of an Early Access journey and help shape a game's development through feedback. And if you just want a cheap, atmospheric horror experience you can finish in an evening and don't mind a few rough edges, it might scratch that itch.

But if you're looking for a polished, complete horror game, you should probably wait and see how the game develops or check out the reviews first. At its current PreAlpha state, it's a promising concept with a strong atmosphere that hasn't quite found its footing yet.

If the game has resonated with you, best of luck in winning!
