SCP-087

๐Ÿ ENDED

๐Ÿ“ Description

SCP087 is a firstperson horror game that takes one of the most iconic entries in the SCP Foundation mythos the unlit, seemingly endless staircase and turns it into a short, suffocating descent into the dark. You play as a researcher sent into an abandoned laboratory to investigate the anomaly, and your only way out is down. Thirteen steps at a time, into darkness that swallows your light, with strange noises and objects falling somewhere below you. Escape isn't an option. All you can do is keep going.

The core experience is pure atmospheric dread. There's no combat to speak of if something crosses your path, your best strategy is to avoid it, because fighting back is useless. You're not a soldier. You're a truthseeker armed with a light source and a failing sense of composure. SCP087 absorbs excess light, so anything above 75 watts is useless, and the air grows heavier with every step. The silence is broken only by whispers, distant sounds, and the growing certainty that something is down there with you. It's a game about sustained psychological tension rather than jump scares, and it wears that intention on its sleeve.

What makes it stand out is its commitment to the source material. This isn't a loose "inspired by" project, it's a faithful attempt to capture the authentic SCP atmosphere, built by a solo developer who grew up reading SCP stories and was inspired to make this after a friend told him horror tales about SCP087 in school. It was created using the YAHAHA Horror Game Kit. The result is a short, focused horror experience that knows exactly what it is and doesn't try to be anything more.

It's worth being very honest about the reception, though. The game currently sits at a โ€œMostly Negativeโ€ rating on Steam, with only 26โ€“36% of user reviews being positive across a small handful of ratings. The most common criticism is its length: players consistently report finishing the game in around 10 to 15 minutes, and many feel the price isn't justified given how brief the experience is. One reviewer called it "an indie horror game where your task is to get down alive," noting that the graphics are "average but decent," but that the shortness makes the price hard to swallow. It's a sentiment that comes up again and again.

The system requirements are mercifully low: Windows 10, an Intel Core i58265U or AMD Ryzen 7 2700U, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960. You'll only need about 2 GB of storage space, so it'll run on almost anything.

Who's it for?

If you're a fan of the SCP Foundation and want to experience one of its most famous anomalies firsthand, this is a faithful, atmospheric take on the source material that captures the dread of the endless stairwell. If you enjoy short horror experiences that rely on mood and sound design rather than combat or complex mechanics, the descent delivers that tension in a tight, focused package. It's also for players who want a cheap, selfcontained horror game they can finish in a single sitting and don't mind a game that's been met with mixed reviews. And if you're the kind of person who just wants to walk down a dark staircase and see what's waiting at the bottom, this one's got your name on it.

But if you're looking for a longer, more polished horror experience, or you expect a lot of content, you should probably wait for a deep sale or check out one of the other SCP087 games on Steam, like SCP087: Recovered Document, which offers a longer, storydriven take on the same anomaly. It's faithful to the lore, and it's a complete descent into the dark.

If the game has immersed you, I wish you luck in winning!
