Typing Show

๐Ÿ ENDED

๐Ÿ“ Description

Typing Show is a musical rhythm game that reinvents typing practice by turning it into a performance. Instead of drilling words and sentences, you're playing the piano. Each note of a procedurally generated melody becomes a letter on your keyboard, and your job is to hit the right key at the right moment. It's a dual challenge for your fingers and your sense of rhythm, and it transforms a typically mundane skill into something that feels like being part of a band.

The Core Gameplay

The premise is simple but surprisingly deep. Every piano note you hear corresponds to a letter on your keyboard. You don't practice with standard words from your language; you practice with piano notes. The sequence of letters is determined by the melody itself, so as the music plays, you're following along with your fingers, pressing keys in time with the rhythm. It's not enough to know where the keys are you have to press them at the exact right moment, which adds a layer of timing and pressure that traditional typing tutors completely lack.

Endless Melodies and Flexible Lessons

Instead of a fixed list of songs, the game features a procedural melody generator. You can create a virtually infinite number of new melodies, and if you don't like the one you're hearing, you can simply press a button to generate another. Each melody lasts between 13 and 19 seconds, contains a maximum of 64 notes, and repeats four times during the show, giving you a chance to learn the pattern and improve with each repetition. The melodies are purely instrumental and pianobased, giving the experience a calm, almost meditative quality even as the challenge ramps up.

Progression for All Skill Levels

The game offers 42 typing lessons, starting with just 2 letters and progressing up to 30. You can choose any lesson to start with, so you're never locked into a rigid progression path. The arrangement of letters on the keyboard varies from lesson to lesson, which keeps your muscle memory adaptable and prevents you from relying on the same familiar patterns. You can also customize the game's keyboard layout for different languages, making it accessible to players around the world. Dedicated practice areas help you get ready for the main show, so you're never thrown into the deep end before you're prepared.

Presentation and Extra Features

The game includes various graphic settings and the option to change keyboard characters, allowing you to tailor the visual experience to your preferences. One particularly thoughtful feature is the ability to save and export melodies in WAV and TXT formats, so you can keep the music you generate or share it with others. It's a small touch that adds a lot of value, turning the game into a creative tool as well as a learning experience.

Reception and Community

The game is extremely new and has not yet found a broad audience. On Steam, it currently has only 1 user review, which is rated positively, but the sample is far too small to draw any meaningful conclusions from. One player on itch.io praised the overall art and sound effects, noting that they make the typing gameplay fit the theme perfectly, though they admitted to being a slow typer and having to try a few times. Another review site noted that it "has its moments" but is "no PAYDAY," which is a comparison that makes little sense for a typing rhythm game but captures the general sense that it's a niche experience for a specific kind of player. The game is a hidden gem in the truest sense almost nobody has discovered it yet, and anyone who picks it up now would be among the first to experience it.

System Requirements

The system requirements are mercifully low. Minimum: Windows 10 (64bit), an 11th Gen Intel Core i51135G7 @ 2.40GHz, 8 GB RAM, and Intel Iris Xe Graphics (128 MB). You'll only need 200 MB of storage space. This is a game that will run on virtually any modern laptop or desktop, including integrated graphics setups.

Who Is This Game For?

If you've ever wanted to learn to type faster but found traditional typing tutors boring and repetitive, this is exactly your kind of game. If you enjoy rhythm games like Beat Saber, Osu!, or Guitar Hero and you're looking for something that challenges a different set of skills, the dual demand of pressing the right key at the right time offers a genuinely fresh twist on the genre. It's also for players who appreciate the meditative quality of piano music and want a game they can play for a few minutes to relax while still feeling like they're improving at something useful. And if you're the kind of person who likes discovering obscure indie experiments before everyone else does, this one has your name on it.

If the game happens to get its hooks into you, good luck taking the win!
