Shrine Train

๐Ÿ”ฅ ACTIVE

๐Ÿ“ Description

Shrine Train is a character-driven survival narrative game set aboard an armored train at the end of the world. You don't drive the locomotive. You make the calls for a carful of people who could fall apart at any moment: who goes out today, what you're willing to trade for, whose line you can cross once, and whether to answer a broadcast no one can decode

How a Day Unfolds

The rhythm of each day is built around impossible choices. During daytime, you assemble an away team: you choose who goes out to scavenge, how hard they search, and critically you must always leave someone behind to hold the train. Encounters are not simple A-or-B selections. You're choosing who takes the lead, how they approach the situation, and how much you're willing to spend to resolve it.

The event check system is the game's mechanical heart. Every crisis is resolved through a d20 roll modified by the character's stats, the train's condition, status penalties, and bond bonuses between crew members. These checks resolve beat by beat in an animated sequence, landing on one of five tiers ranging from critical success to catastrophe. It's a system that makes every gamble feel meaningful, because a single roll can change everything.

After nightfall, you choose your heading, select your night actions, and face whatever finds you on the rails.

Thirteen Characters, Each with Their Own Wants and Fears

The train can hold up to thirteen characters. Each one is written with what they want, what they fear, what they will never accept, and under what conditions they truly change. Every choice you make is stamped with a value tag. They speak up on the spot, they remember what you did, and days later they answer you with what they do.

Capability decides who you can send. Personality decides whether you should. A character might be the best scavenger on the train, but if they despise another crew member, sending them out together could be a disaster. The game's social simulation runs deep, and the relationships between your survivors become as important as the resources you gather.

Multiple Paths to an Ending

There is no single road to the end. You can gather radio scraps and frequencies, get a signal out, and then face the question of whether rescue will even take a train of "unclean" people. You can follow the hive's hum toward the mother, stockpile firepower, and in the finale pour every round you have into one last standOr you can take a third road one that isn't on the menu.

And then there's the other thread, the one that runs underneath everything else. Something wrong starts appearing aboard the train. Something begins to notice you first as unreadable white noise on the radio, then as different people dreaming the same building, until a station that should not exist shows up on the map. The supernatural and the survival elements intertwine, and the mystery of what is following you becomes as urgent as the need for food and fuel.

AI Content Disclosure

The developer is transparent about this on the store page. AI-assisted tools were used during development to help create and refine some visual assets, text, and audio content. All AI-assisted content was reviewed, edited, and curated by the developer before being included in the game. The game does not generate AI content dynamically during gameplay. This is a disclosure worth knowing about if AI-assisted content is a concern for you.
Reception and Community

The game has just launched and currently has no user reviews on Steam, so there is no community consensus yet on how it holds up over time. It's a title that has slipped under the radar, and anyone who picks it up now would be discovering it before almost everyone else. The developer, ShrINe, is active on the Steam Community Hub, with a message in the forums inviting players to leave any questions or suggestions and promising to reply to everything they see.

System Requirements

Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i3-6100 / AMD FX-6300, 4 GB RAM, an Intel HD 520 / GTX 750 or equivalent graphics card, DirectX 11, and 3 GB of storage space. It's a lightweight game that will run on virtually any computer made in the last decade.

Who Is This Game For?

If you love narrative survival games where every decision has weight and the characters remember what you did games like This War of Mine or Frostpunk but with a tighter focus on personal relationships and d20-driven tension this is exactly your kind of game. If you enjoy the slow burn of managing limited resources while a group of desperate people slowly reveals who they really are, the thirteen-character cast and the bond system will keep you engaged for hours. It's also for players who appreciate a game that trusts you to make hard calls without a safety net, where a bad roll can mean losing someone you've grown attached to. And if you just want a cheap, atmospheric survival story about a train full of fragile people at the end of the world, with a supernatural mystery humming underneath it all, this one has your name on it.

If the game entertains you, good luck taking the win!
