๐ Description
Horta Maluca is a top-down action roguelite where the garden has gone mad, and the vegetables themselves must defend it. You face waves of mutant pests, combine weapons, choose powers, and turn every run into a new character build. It's a fast, chaotic arena shooter where the harvest is worth fighting for and the final wave is always waiting.
The Core Gameplay
You move across the arena, dodge attacks, and survive increasingly dangerous waves. Common enemies, special threats, and Mutants will put your strategy to the test until the final wave. Combat is real-time and focused on movement and positioning you're not just aiming and shooting, you're weaving through chaos, managing space, and deciding when to push forward and when to fall back.
Build Your Loadout
You choose your starting weapon and find new options throughout the run. You can combine copies, perform fusions, and increase the rarity of your arsenal. Powers and passive items let you create builds focused on direct damage, elemental effects, bleeding, survival, speed, or economy. Every run becomes a fresh opportunity to experiment with a different combination, and the fusion system rewards players who are willing to commit to a path and push it as far as it will go.
Visit the Garden Fair
At the end of each wave, you spend the seeds you collected on weapons, powers, and upgrades. You choose whether to strengthen your current build, take a chance on new offers, or save for a better opportunity. It's a simple shop loop, but the decision-making has weight every purchase shapes the rest of your run, and knowing when to invest and when to hold back is part of the skill.
Grow Your Character
Defeating Mutants earns you Mutant Essence, which you invest in the Cultivation Tree. Each character has unique progression paths, allowing you to deepen their strengths and develop different playstyles between runs. Permanent progression means that even a failed run contributes to your long-term growth, and the Cultivation Tree gives you a reason to keep coming back beyond just chasing a high score.
Choose Your Defender
Each playable character has unique attributes, advantages, limitations, and mechanics. You choose the defender that fits your style and discover new ways to protect the garden. The roster isn't just skins each character plays differently, and finding the one that clicks with you is part of the journey.
Content and Updates
The game features multiple difficulty levels and an interface available in Brazilian Portuguese and English. It has been actively updated since launch, with new characters like BEETRIX the Alchemist who introduces a Seasoning permanent currency and Super Harvest mechanic along with performance improvements and new weapons. The Horta Maluca demo is also available to play for free on Steam, giving you a chance to explore the garden, face its pests, and experiment with some of the weapons, powers, and combinations before committing to the full game.
AI Content Disclosure
The developers are transparent about this on the store page. AI tools assisted development and the creation of visual assets, which were reviewed and integrated by the developer. This is a disclosure worth knowing about if AI-assisted content is a concern for you.
Reception and Community
The game has just launched and currently has no user reviews on Steam, so there is no community consensus yet on how it holds up over time. It is a title that has slipped under the radar, and anyone who picks it up now would be discovering it before almost everyone else. The demo had a modest all-time peak of just 2 concurrent players, suggesting the community is still in its infancy.

Who Is This Game For?
If you love action roguelites like Vampire Survivors, Brotato, or Halls of Torment and you want something with a colorful, absurd premise and a satisfying weapon fusion system, this is exactly your kind of game. If you enjoy the loop of surviving waves, experimenting with builds, and slowly unlocking permanent upgrades that make you stronger over time, the Cultivation Tree and the Garden Fair give you plenty to work toward. It's also for players who appreciate a game that's still growing the developers are actively adding new characters, mechanics, and improvements, and the community is small enough that you can be part of shaping its future. And if you just want a cheap, chaotic, endlessly replayable arena shooter about vegetable heroes defending their garden from mutant pests, this one has your name on it.
If the game is something you enjoy, best of luck claiming the win!
