TheSpoiler is a short, tense first person escape game infused with psychological horror, and it doesn't waste a single second of your time. You wake up trapped in a nightmare, with no idea how you got there. The books scattered around are your only guide, and when the clock chimes, the world transforms , darkness swallows the light, and monsters and witches come out to play. Your only goal is to escape the nightmare and avoid whatever is hunting you.
The gameplay is straightforward but effective. You solve simple puzzles, find items, and use them to progress, all while something is chasing you through the dark. It's a walking simulator at heart, but the constant threat of pursuit keeps you on edge. There are short cutscenes that punctuate the action and move the story forward, and the whole experience is designed to be beaten in about 30 minutes , though most players take longer on their first run, with some reporting 90 minutes on their first playthrough and around 30 minutes on a second.
It was developed and published by a small indie studio, and released on February 14, 2024. The game supports two languages , Korean and English , and runs on Windows 10 with modest specs: an Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 3, 4 GB RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 470 at minimum. It supports keyboard and mouse, and there's full controller support as well.
The reception has been small but positive. With only 5 user reviews on Steam, it's still flying under most people's radar, but those who've played it have had good things to say. One player called it a "fun horror game" they tried without expectations, praising its length and replayability. Another wanted more hint systems for the puzzles, but still enjoyed their time with it. It's sitting at 100% positive from the handful of reviews available.
Who's it for?
If you like short horror experiences you can finish in a single sitting, this is for you. If you enjoy escape room style puzzles with a chasing enemy to keep the tension high, it delivers on that front. It's also for players who want a cheap, focused indie horror game that doesn't overstay its welcome. And if you're the kind of person who likes supporting small developers and discovering hidden gems before everyone else does, this one's worth a look. There's a free demo available on Steam if you want to try before win.
If the game has captured your heart, best of luck in your bid to win.
