Spider-Man might not be the famous superhero in the world but he is definitely one of the most easy to like. He has won over people in a way that not many others have. His comics have always been among the best selling in the category. His reach goes beyond books and movies, and that is where the game comes in. The remastered version gives us a visual upgrade. It does not change the open world style. It still manages to impress with amazing pictures, great fighting and a very smooth experience.
One of the problems with current open-world games is how similar they all are. Exploring often feels like a job, a waste of time of a real adventure.. Spider-Man has one big advantage: web swinging. It is easy to learn, very satisfying. Hits the perfect balance between speed, fun and pure excitement. Just moving through New York City looking at the sights during the day or night makes traveling across the map feel like a pleasure of a duty.
The game is also very easy to use. You can change the difficulty whenever you want skip some games and use a helpful auto save system. Things to collect are clearly marked on the map so you don't have to search for a guide and the games setup makes it hard to miss any parts of the story. Fighting keeps the feel of Spider-Man games while making things simpler. It is easy to play. There is still room to get really good if you want to. With movement and the spider-sense feature you can do cool movie like fight scenes.
The story, even though it is predictable and a bit overused, moves at a speed and keeps you interested. The big scenes are impressive. Seeing New York change as the story goes on adds a level of being there that makes you feel like you are right in the middle of everything. The acting is very good too.
The game takes place eight years after Peter Parker became Spider-Man, which's a nice detail but the story does feel a bit broken. There is some information but it is spread out and not always connected well which may confuse new players. The emotional parts are strong. The end has real tension but the whole story feels too quick and not fully developed. Many characters do not get time the bad guys are not deep and most of the people are shown in extremes. Their reasons make sense. They are explained so quickly that it all feels a bit shallow.
Fighting even though it is clean starts to feel the same and not interesting by the middle of the game. The simplifying that made it easy also removed some of the depth.. The constant slow motion and long shots during final moves quickly become overused.
Then there is the world extra stuff. The game has a lot of side missions crime events and base-clearing tasks that are the same as each other. They start off interesting. Soon become boring. The challenge missions are not well made and the sneaking parts and puzzles added to the story often feel like extra things instead of real gameplay. The downloadable content is not very good in terms of story. Although they try to add new features it is really just the same things in a different look. It is frustrating especially if you want to finish everything.
On the side there are some problems with how the game runs, \sometimes it drops frames there are a few bugs here and there. Nothing that breaks the game. Enough to be annoying.
Still with all its issues Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is definitely a game. It makes some improvements and even if it stays within the limits of a usual open world style it has a lot to offer. If you are a Spider-Man fan or just love the gameplay this game will not let you down.
