How to Fish How to Fish

I bought How to Fish expecting a peaceful little fishing game, calm water, relaxing music, maybe a quiet moment to reflect on life.

Instead, I got drunk, crashed a boat, beat marine life with my bare hands, bought firearms, fought aquatic bosses, and discovered that apparently the most efficient fishing technique is armed robbery against the ocean.

The gameplay loop is beautifully stupid. Catch fish, murder fish, sell fish, buy increasingly unreasonable equipment, and repeat until the entire ecosystem files a restraining order. The physics are gloriously unhinged, the controls occasionally behave as if they've also been drinking, and half the fun comes from watching a perfectly reasonable plan collapse into absolute maritime nonsense.

With friends, this game is hysterical. Nobody cooperates, someone loses the boat, another person starts gambling away the group's money, and one psychopath is trying to no scope a flying mackerel instead of completing the objective.

Honestly, though, the game can become repetitive. Playing alone loses much of the magic, and the bugs sometimes stop being charming and start acting like unpaid developers. It isn't deep, polished, or particularly sophisticated, but neither is shooting a fish out of the air, and somehow that still feels like an important cultural achievement.

How to Fish does not teach you how to fish. It teaches you that patience is optional, violence is profitable, and friendship is mostly about having reliable witnesses.
✅ Pros:
  • Chaotic fun
  • Ridiculous physics
  • Satisfying progression
  • Fantastic coop
❌ Contras:
  • Repetitive
  • Boring singleplayer
  • Some bugs
