A coop that's more than just a game
A Way Out is  a split screen coop experience that leans heavily into the interactive movie genre and honestly, it works beautifully. For large stretches of the game, you're watching rather than playing, but that never takes away from the brilliance of the narrative or the sheer amount of fun you'll have along the way. The dynamic between Vincent and Leo is what carries the whole thing, and their story is genuinely gripping from start to finish.

I first played through A Way Out not long after it originally launched on Origin. I went through it with a close friend back then, and when I spotted it on sale recently on Steam, I decided to pick it up again and play through it with the same buddy, but this time we swapped characters to get a completely fresh perspective.

While the main story is fantastic, I think the game really shines in its mini games. Honestly, we spent a huge chunk of our playtime just messing around with Connect 4, Grenade Brothers, Baseball, and a bunch of other little distractions. They're surprisingly addictive and add so much personality to the experience.

The plot is full of twists and turns, and A Way Out truly stands out among other narrative games. It's absolutely worth checking out, provided you have a good friend to share the journey with. This is not a solo experience, and it wouldn't work nearly as well without someone by your side.

If I had to point out some downsides, here's what I'd say: the cutscenes are unskippable, which gets frustrating if you're replaying the game multiple times. You also can't hurt or take down friendly characters and there are quite a few moments where the combat or movement feels locked into rigid animations.

Aside from those minor gripes, I honestly don't have many complaints. I'd happily play through A Way Out again in the near future, and I probably will.
✅ Avantages:
  • Emotional story between main characters
  • Excellent coop design
  • Funny mini-games
❌ Inconvénients:
  • Scripted mechanics
  • It feels like watching a movie rather than playing a game
