A game that has been with me most of my life
My first online match was an absolute disaster. Jets screaming overhead, tanks rattling the streets, bullets whizzing past me from every direction. I didn't manage to get a single kill that entire game. But somehow, I was completely hooked. For the first time ever, I felt like I was part of something bigger , i was part of a war, a team, a living, breathing battlefield.
A couple of days later, I stumbled across this YouTube video of a player pulling off a Rendezook. You know the one - eject from a jet, fire a rocket at an enemy, and somehow land back in your plane. I must have watched it a hundred times, mesmerized. Eventually, I decided to give it a go myself. So I leaped into a jet, chased an enemy up into the clouds, ejected, took the shot, and completely missed. The rocket flew off into the distance. My jet stalled and plummeted into the sea, and I followed right after it, laughing all the way down.
One day I decided to download Battlefield 1. The second that main menu music hit, it was like hearing a song I'd forgotten I loved. that was haunting, beautiful melody that instantly pulled me back in. I loaded into St. Quentin Scar, started racking up kills, and then a few minutes later, I got absolutely eviscerated. I couldn't even take five steps out of spawn without getting domed.Frustrating, chaotic, but good times.
Battlefield became that one game I always returned to. No matter what else I was playing, I'd always come back. The rooftop antics on Siege of Shanghai, the frantic last minute pushes on Amiens, random teammates who never said a word but somehow always had your back.Little moments like that reminded me why I fell in love with this series in the first place.
