A game for fun or grinding
There's something magical about the first few hours of a great game, a special kind of trance. You buy a project on release day, boot it up without any expectations, and suddenly you realise that the first five hours have flown by in the blink of an eye. In Scritchy Scratchy instant juicy visuals, polished animation, interesting ticket mechanics and a coherent, fun story will keep you glued to the screen. “In that moment it’s an undeniable masterpiece.
But once the credits roll and the initial rush wears off, the game reveals its true nature, and the perfectionist's drive kicks in.
For those who are used to completing games 100%, Scritchy Scratchy offers a completely different experience. The line between entertainment and monotonous routine here is razor thin. The game demands grinding, stubborn, cyclical repetition of the same actions. And at some point, you catch yourself no longer playing for fun. You log in with a clear plan, practically convincing yourself: "I need to get at least two more runs done today, just to inch closer to that elusive platinum."
Does this make the game bad? Not at all. Even through the lens of this mild grind fatigue, the project leaves you with nothing but warm feelings. It's a wonderful, beautiful, and unique experience that fully justifies its place in your library.
This is a well deserved 10 out of 10, but with an important caveat. Sometimes beauty demands sacrifice, and in this case, that sacrifice will be your free time.
