For years, Dovetail Games had a monopoly on train driving simulations, and we all got used to their way of doing things. But this feels like a completely different story. A train sim that actually puts the community at the centre of the experience.

I'm really glad about the things this sim does right from the start. You can actually feel the weight of the train you're driving. The sounds are excellent, very impressive. You get long, proper routes right out of the box. And the graphics hold up well too, the route network is detailed and feels alive.

Multiplayer is the real game changer here. Talking to real people manning the signal boxes, working together to solve issues. It all adds up to a genuinely joyous experience. Before SimRail, my attitude towards multiplayer was always a bit disappointing, but just a couple of sessions completely changed my mind. It gives every drive a real sense of occasion, and it's the way I'll be playing from now on.

As for the people screaming in their reviews that this game is too expensive, they must be delirious. It costs less than a single Train Sim World route add on after DTG's latest price hike, and you get two full, long routes and five different drivable trains. This is exceptional value.

Negatives? No Raildriver support yet. Too few passengers. Probably a steep learning curve for newcomers, though the community is already helpful and there's decent documentation available.
