A game that is underrated
Okay, let's be real to most FPS players, this game probably looks like trash at first glance. But if you actually take the time to look closer, Easy Red 2 has not only massive potential, but it's also surprisingly realistic in all the right ways. I'm going to ignore the fact that this game was mostly created by one person and review it like it was made by a full dev team, because honestly, it holds up better than it has any right to.

Let's start with the graphics. They're not AAA. Not even close. They sit somewhere between decent and low poly, which honestly helps the game run smoothly on just about anything. There are a few nice effects scattered around, but overall, nothing to write home about. It's functional, and that's fine.

The gunplay is good trash. What I mean by that is there's a ton of recoil, an absolute mountain of suppression effects, and weapon sway that will catch you off guard. If you're coming from Battlefield or Call of Duty, you're going to find it really annoying at first. But once you get used to it? It's incredibly satisfying. In fact, I'd say the gunplay in Easy Red 2 is very comparable to games like Squad or Hell Let Loose, it rewards patience, careful aiming, and controlled shots. It's not run and gun. It's tactical.

Movement is pretty standard. Infinite sprint, crouching, prone, the usual. Nothing groundbreaking here. You move at a decent speed while sprinting, but don't expect to feel like Master Chief. You're a regular soldier, and it shows.

The music isn't the best either. It's calm and atmospheric, meant to reflect the environment you're fighting in, which is fine, but it could definitely be better. That said, music isn't really the focus here. This isn't a cinematic blockbuster like Battlefield, so it doesn't hurt the experience too much.

Now, ground vehicles? This is the part where I genuinely think Easy Red 2 has no business being this good. There are tons of them: logistical trucks, jeeps, APCs, tanks, tank destroyers, and even SPGs. As of March 2023, there are over 30 drivable ground vehicles in the game, with more confirmed for the upcoming Normandy DLC. I'm a huge tank fan myself, and I can say that the tank combat feels genuinely good for a game that's mostly focused on infantry. The only downside? The AI bots aren't great at driving tanks, that's definitely something that needs work.

Air vehicles are a bit less impressive. Planes mostly feel similar to each other, just with different weapons and loadouts. There are only about 10 airplanes in the game right now, not counting paratrooper planes and gliders. It's fine, but it doesn't wow you the way ground vehicles do.

Maps are well balanced and realistic. You've got a good mix of infantry, vehicle, and plane combat across different environments, and the variety is solid, though I do think an official Africa map or campaign would really round things out.

And the map editor? Yes, you can make your own maps. It takes time and effort, like any editor, but compared to something like Ravenfield, this one is seriously impressive. There are tons of props, terrain options, mission settings, and it's all relatively easy to learn. I won't say much more, just go try it yourself.

Multiplayer is pretty much dead, unfortunately. You'll occasionally see an organized event, but the most I've ever seen on a server at once was about 20 people. So don't buy this for multiplayer.

Squad mechanics are similar to Enlisted. You lead or join a squad of about five soldiers, each with their own inventory and weapons. It works well.

Game modes are straightforward , basically Battlefield's Operations and Conquest modes. That's it.

But the community and development? That's where this game really shines. The game gets frequent updates with small content drops, and the dev team, essentially one and a half people is incredibly passionate and clearly cares about the project. Marco, the man responsible for around 99% of the game, is genuinely dedicated and listens to feedback. And the community itself? One of the friendliest, most supportive gaming communities I've ever come across. Toxic players are almost non existent here.

Oh, and one more thing, you don't need Wi-Fi to play singleplayer. That's a win in my book.

Overall, Easy Red 2 is an easy 9.5/10 for me. It's genuinely fun, rarely gets boring, and while it may look uninspiring or cheap on the surface, it's a hidden gem among WWII shooters.

  • Satisfying gunplay
  • Huge variety of vehicles
  • Well balanced maps
  • Easy to use map editor
  • Singleplayer works offline
❌ Contro:
  • Graphics are average
  • Music is forgettable
  • Multiplayer is dead
