Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynched is exactly what a good remake should be. It takes an already fantastic game and makes it look and feel better without messing with what made it special in the first place. The lighting is noticeably improved, the textures are crisper, and the handful of small gameplay tweaks make everything flow more smoothly.
Black Flag remains one of the best entries in the entire Assassin's Creed franchise. The pirate atmosphere is still unmatched, the naval combat is as thrilling as ever, the exploration is vast and rewarding, the soundtrack is iconic, and Edward Kenway is still one of the most compelling protagonists the series has ever had. If you somehow missed this game back in 2013, this remake is an absolute must have to play.
Some of the changes are genuinely welcome too. The old collectible bloat has been trimmed down significantly. Thankfully, those annoying full synchronization objectives are completely gone. You can now play missions your way, without being forced to follow random extra rules that just felt restrictive and unnecessary.
The core gameplay is still very close to the original, and that's fine for a remake. The main story, the world, the overall structure, it was all already there. A remake doesn't need to reinvent the wheel, and Resynched doesn't try to. But price 60€ still feels like a tough pill to swallow for what is essentially a visual and quality-of-life upgrade. Around 30–40€ would have felt much more reasonable, and a cheaper upgrade path for owners of the original would have been the right move.
Of course, because this is Ubisoft we're talking about, they've added a bunch of cosmetic packs that look completely ridiculous and clash horribly with the game's setting. Some things never change.
All in all, this is a well made remake with plenty of improvements that enhance an already great experience. If you can grab it at a discount, go for it without hesitation. But at full price? It's hard to defend.
