A wonderful representation of Gotham in the world of LEGO
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight feels like a genuine love letter to Batman as a character, not just another cookie cutter LEGO adaptation. TT Games has done what they do best, bringing together humor, collectibles, coop friendly design, and that signature lighthearted tone, but this time, they've also made a real effort to modernize the moment to moment gameplay and make it feel more action-focused.
The game's biggest strength is easily the atmosphere of Gotham. Even in brick form, the city has real personality. Rooftops, dark alleys, iconic Batman imagery, it's all there, packed with small details that make exploration genuinely satisfying. It doesn't try to compete with the Arkham games in terms of darkness or intensity, but it captures the fantasy of being Batman in a way that's fun, accessible, and surprisingly immersive.
Combat took me by surprise too. It's clearly inspired by the Arkham-style free flow system, with counters, gadgets, finishers, and crowd control playing a much bigger role than in older LEGO titles. It's still simple enough to stay family friendly, but there's enough weight and rhythm to keep it from feeling completely mindless.
Of course, the classic LEGO formula is still here, breaking objects, collecting studs, solving environmental puzzles, unlocking characters, revisiting old areas, and chasing that 100% completion. If you're into collectathons, this game gives you plenty to sink your teeth into. The structure works especially well here because Batman's world naturally lends itself to gadgets, secrets, hidden routes, and character-specific abilities.
The humor is another highlight. The game understands that Batman can be dramatic and ridiculous at the same time, and it plays with that beautifully. Familiar characters and references are scattered throughout, but the game never fully descends into pure parody. It keeps that balance, letting Batman feel cool while still landing the LEGO-style comedy. That's a tough line to walk, and they do it well.
That said, it's not without its flaws. Combat, while fun, does start to feel repetitive during longer sessions. Some upgrades aren't as exciting as they should be, and the difficulty rarely pushes you to your limits. If you're expecting something as deep or demanding as the Arkham series, you'll be disappointed. This borrows from Arkham, but it's still very much a LEGO game at heart.
The open world is enjoyable, but it can also feel a bit like a checklist. There’s lots to collect and find but not all tasks are equally interesting and some of the side stuff feels like filler especially if you’re not already feeling the pull of the completionist grind.
Like most LEGO games there are a few rough edges, nothing game breaking but the lack of polish is noticeable on occasion.
Overall LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a strong addition to the LEGO game series and one of the most fun Batman titles outside of the main Arkham series. It’s charming, full of fan service, a joy to explore and easy to recommend to anyone who enjoys Batman, LEGO games or casual action adventure games with a large focus on collectibles.
