Ready or Not Ready or Not

An FPS game that offers many ways to complete it.
Let's start with pacing. Ready or Not is not like other FPS games. No matter your playstyle, you have to adapt. Running and gunning will get you absolutely nowhere. One to three shots is all it takes to kill, and that includes you. You're not Superman. You're a SWAT officer, a human being in a world where life is fragile and fleeting. If you round a corner without checking first, or slam open a door without caution, you risk getting shot in the head or blown to pieces by a trap. That would be tense enough on its own, but death also means restarting the entire mission or calling for an evac. The developers didn't even include a sprint button, just to reinforce the point: you do not rush this game. You play slow, methodical, and careful, checking every corner, ticking off an invisible list of safety precautions. And if you do die? The game sends you back to the police station, where you have to sit through what feels like seven different intermissions just to replay the mission. It's punishing, but it makes every decision matter.

Next up is environmental storytelling. This game doesn't just tell you its story, it shows you, through the environments themselves. If you stripped away all the textures and left everything else the same, you'd miss out on about 60% of the experience. Walking through the aftermath of a tragedy and piecing together what happened is one of the most well executed parts of the game. Take the gas station robbery mission. There's a ringing phone on the floor next to the manager's mangled body, and it will never be answered. In The Spider, posters on the walls show the faces of the child victims who were traded into Brixley's hands. In Twisted Nerve, there's a child's bedroom in the crackhouse, where an innocent little girl lies dead in her bed while a music box plays in the background. These are just my favourite examples.

And finally, the freedom. In Ready or Not, you have access to every weapon, attachment, tool, and piece of field equipment from the moment you step into the police station. Want to go non lethal? There's a loadout for that. Want to go full? There's a loadout for that too. Want to go in with nothing at all? I'm pretty sure you can do that as well. The freedom extends to missions too, if you join a public lobby, all the missions are unlocked for you to play with friends. You can even enable friendly fire and grief your whole squad if you're feeling chaotic.
✅ Plusy:
  • Intense tactical gameplay
  • Death has real consequences
  • All missions available in multiplayer
❌ Minusy:
  • Very hard experience
  • Long respawn time
  • Friendly fire can ruin runs
