Not a very good fishing simulator.
Overall, this game was underwhelming, and that's a shame, because there's so much potential here.
Let's start with what it gets right. The pixel art is absolutely stunning. The atmosphere is very cozy and attention to detail is amazing. Every region feels different and the fish catalog, customers, artifacts and lore are all presented with a lot of care. You can tell the developers poured their heart into the world building and visual design.
Unfortunately, the fishing and incremental mechanics don't live up to that same standard. The first few minutes overwhelm you with new systems and ideas, but after that, very little actually evolves. The game quickly devolves into a repetitive grind, with only occasional highlights like unlocking legendary customers or fish, and even those lose their novelty after the first few times.
I actually enjoyed the descaling, deworming, and cleaning minigames. They were satisfying in a tactile sort of way, but even they became repetitive over time. The real issue, though, is the progression system. Most upgrades just increase numbers without making you feel any stronger. There's no visual feedback, no new mechanics, no sense of growth beyond a stat going up. Imagine if upgrades gave you larger hooks, stronger gravitational pull, faster animations, or unique visual effects, that would have made progression so much more satisfying.
Some bait upgrades were genuinely fun because they actually changed how fishing worked. The no damage bait, treasure compass, and especially the spring boost were great examples of this. I wish more baits had modified gameplay instead of just giving you passive stat boosts. Even better visual feedback, like stronger damage effects or visible critical hits, would have helped a lot.
Changing zones was also disappointing because your rod progression resets, making you feel weaker than before. It's like a prestige system, but without any meaningful reward. If resetting progress gave you permanent abilities, skill points, talents, or upgrades that fundamentally changed the next area, each run could have felt fresh and different. But as it stands, it just feels like starting over.
The story, art direction, atmosphere, and lore are phenomenal, but the weak incremental mechanics hold everything back. Every zone follows almost the same loop, with very little gameplay evolution. And the game drags on for way too long, especially considering how limited the idle mechanics are.
With better progression, more meaningful rewards, and mechanics that actually evolved between regions, this could have been a much stronger experience. I enjoyed parts of it, the world, the art, the vibes, but unfortunately, I can't recommend it in its current state.
