Good fun even if you play alone
I spent a lot of hours in this game now,and almost all of that has been solo. So for anyone out there worrying that you absolutely need a team to enjoy this, you don't. Solo has been a blast from start to finish.

It still feels very much like the previous Outlast games at its core, but with some great new features and the added twist of RNG. Every trial is a complete crapshoot, doorways that were open last time might be blocked now, items spawn in different places, and you never quite know what you're walking into. It gives the game a ton of replay value and keeps things feeling fresh even after dozens of runs.

Your typical run? A whole lot of crouching, hiding in the dark, and holding your breath while enemies shuffle past you, punctuated by brief moments of absolute terror when you get spotted and have to haul ass across the map, barely escaping with your life.

I've also played with others a few times. Coop shifts the vibe away from stealth and more toward a rushed, chaotic tactic through the trial. It's fun in its own way, just a little less "Outlasty", but still an enjoyable way to experience the content with friends.

And of course, it's got all the twisted, grotesque visuals and creepy sound design you'd expect from an Outlast game. This time, though, it's wrapped in a perverse mockery of 1950s suburban culture. The whole aesthetic is fantastic. The environment oozes character and dread in equal measure.
✅ Pros:
  • Solo play is so much fun
  • Classic Outlast series with new mechanics
  • High replay value
  • Coop
❌ Cons:
  • Different experience than latest two games
  • Playing with friends make game less scary
  • Repetitive
